Security Alert - Increase in spam and phishing attempts
ITS is noticing an increase in spam and phishing emails sent to the RISD community. In particular, we're seeing another round of phishing emails advertising a Research Assistant position. These messages are a scam.
Here are a few quick questions to help you determine the legitimacy of a message:
- Who is the message from? Always check the full email address of the sender! Be cautious of emails originating from non @risd.edu accounts.
- Is the message in your SPAM folder? Google's spam filters are reliable. If you do not know the sender, it's probably spam!
- What is the sender asking? If they are asking for personal information, offering/requesting payment or gift cards, or asking you to communicate via text - all red flags!
You can report a suspicious email by forwarding it to the IT Service Desk (servicedesk@risd.edu) OR directly in Google by clicking the three dots next to Reply and selecting "Report phishing".
