DUO hardware tokens
If a user does not have access to a smart phone or landline phone to use as two-factor authentication (2FA), they may purchase a DUO token, also known as security or hardware tokens. They are small hardware devices that can be used as an alternative to using your phone, tablet, or the Duo Mobile app when going through 2FA. These portable devices will generate a passcode that you can enter when you need to complete the two-factor authentication process to access a protected RISD site or service.
The tokens are a one time purchase (no battery replacement option) and have a battery life of approximately 2 years before requiring replacement.
How do I purchase a Duo hardware token?
Duo tokens are available to purchase at the RISD store as an individual user or through department chargeback. Duo tokens are only available for purchase in-person at the register to prevent non-RISD customers from purchasing them. They are not listed online.
How do I enroll a Duo hardware token?
To enroll your Duo hardware token, contact the IT Service Desk at (401) 454-6106 with your RISD username and Duo hardware serial number.
