RISD uses Third-party, ADA-compliant services
Real-Time Captions
Some departments or events may require real-time ADA-compliant captioning, called Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART). In simple terms, human interaction/translation.
There is a cost associated with these services, and the department requesting this service is responsible for the cost (approximately $200/hour). This service requires a two-week lead time to schedule an event. Reasonable attempts will be made to honor last-minute requests, but RISD cannot guarantee service provider availability.
To learn more about ADA compliance or whether or not your event requires ADA-compliant captioning, contact Disability Services.
RISD recommends closed captioning for in-person events with over 200 people.
