Windows 10 Update Instructions
All Window computers should be running at least Windows Version 22H2. ITS recommends version 22H2. It’s also best to keep your device plugged in during the updates!
If you prefer reading, please follow the detailed written steps below:
1) Click on the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen
2) Click on the gear icon for Settings
3) Inside of Windows Settings, click Update & Security
4) Inside of Windows Update, click the link in blue type, that says “Check online for updates from Microsoft Update”
If you have updates available, Windows will start to download and install them. This can take up to an hour per session depending on how many versions you are behind and your WiFi connection and computer processing power (if possible, connect to the internet using an ethernet cable).
5) Keep repeating steps 1 thru 4 above after each restart until it returns with no updates available.
Once no updates are available, you can confirm if you are indeed updated to the latest Windows 10 version by looking at About Your PC. You can do that by following these steps:
From the Windows search box, type About and hit return/enter.
Congratulations!! You are up to date and more importantly, your computer is now more secure and stable!!
As always, if you have any issues, questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your department technician or the Service Desk team (servicedesk@risd.edu) for assistance.
** IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT UPDATE TO WINDOWS 11 IF IT ASKS YOU TO. WE ARE
STILL IN THE PROCESS OF TESTING WINDOWS 11 WITHIN OUR NETWORK TO CONFIRM COMPATIBILITY. IT SERVICES WILL SEND AN ANNOUNCEMENT ONCE WE HAVE CONFIRMED AND DETERMINED THAT IT IS SUCCESSFULLY WORKING WITH OUR NETWORK AND DEVICES. THANK YOU! **
