Disabling/Enabling the Touch Screen Display on Windows 10 computers

Modified on: Mon, Apr 22 2024 10:09 AM

Here's how to disable the touch screen display on Windows 10 computers:

1. Locate the Search Bar to the right of your Start button. (Look for the little magnifying glass next to the Windows logo if you’re having trouble finding it)
2. Type "device manager" in the Search Bar and hit Enter
3. Click on Device Manager from the results. (If you’ve typed everything correctly, you shouldn’t have much to sort through)
4. Select "Human Interface Devices" from the window and expand it by click on the ">" icon next to it
5. Select your touch screen display from the new sub-list (should be "HID-compliant touch screen")
6. Right-click that option or use the Action dropdown and select "Disable device"
7. If a verification popup loads, click "Yes" to proceed.

Now just check to see if your touch screen is deactivated to confirm.

NOTE:  If your touch screen is deactivated and you're ready to use it again, simply repeat the same procedure as described above, but this time when completing step 6, you should find a new “Enable device” option. To turn your touch screen back on, click the “Enable device” option and then “Yes” to verify your actions on any pop-up windows.
