Register or Drop a Student Course in Workday (Administrative)
These directions are intended for administrative support staff, not students.
To Add a Student to a Course
Select administrative support staff may register one or more students for one or more course sections in one action.
You may register students only for classes within your department. Registering students for classes outside of your department will result in the removal of your registration ability.
When registering a group of students for a course, they must all be registered for the same section. For example, Mary, Jose and Zane need to be registered for FOUND 1001, which has 32 sections. All three students must be registered for the same section, say, section 05.
Workday permits you to bypass seat capacities. Please be cognizant of the physical and fire code limitations of the room.
Workday permits you to bypass all course section eligibility rules (“restrictions”), including by permission of instructor or by permission of department.
Workday will not permit you to exceed the student’s semester credit limit (16 credits unless otherwise approved), nor will it allow you to bypass a registration hold or time conflict.
- In the upper left click Menu then Academic Unit Dashboard.
- Under Students, click Register Student(s).
- In Start Date choose or enter the semester of the class (e.g. Fall 2023).
- In Courses enter the class or classes for which to register the students. You can enter a subject/number (e.g. CER 3311) or a full or partial class title (e.g. Digital Ceramics.) You'll choose the specific section of the course later.
- Choose Students.
- In the Students box enter or paste a student's name or ID number. You must enter student's individually, Workday doesn't support pasting a list of names or IDs in the Students box.
Your screen should look like the below:

- For each course (A in the figure below), choose a section (B in the figure below).

- You may optionally tell Workday to register the students even if they do not meet the eligibility rules ("restrictions" or "pre-requisites") by selecting Override next to Eligibility.
- Click Mass Register.
-
