How do I transfer my Google Email and Drive content to another account?
Please note: At this time, Google Takeout is only available for student and recent alumni accounts.
Use the Google Takeout transfer option to make a "copy" of your email & drive contents to another personal gmail account*.
Transfer will allow you to:
- copy data (email and drive) from one google workspace (risd.edu or alumni.risd.edu) to another personal Google / Gmail account.
Don't have a personal Google account? Visit https://accounts.google.com/SignUp to create a free account.
- copy ALL Google Drive files and folders**.
Before starting the transfer process, be sure you have enough storage capacity in your personal/destination account to receive all your content. Free Google accounts come with 15 GB of storage. You may purchase additional storage through Google. *The following prices are Google's pricing and are subject to change. Basic Plan 100 GB ($0.49 first 3 months/$1.99 a month) and Standard Plan 200 GB ($0.75 first 3 months/$2.99 a month).

Sign in to your personal Gmail account (you will need to open an incognito window to sign in to your personal Gmail within the same browser) and then copy the verification code.
Go back to your RISD account, paste in the verification code, then choose “Verify”.
-
Choose the content you want to copy. You will have the option to copy Email and Drive.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Click “Start Transfer” to initiate. This process can take up to a week, but you will receive an email notification in your personal Gmail account once it is complete. Copied files might appear in batches on your Google Account during the copy process.
*ALUMNI* After the transfer process is complete, set up a forwarding email address in your alumni account. You may set up forwarding by following the steps shared by Google Support.
