Add or Change Social Security Number

Overview

Your Social Security Number is required to receive federal financial aid and to be eligible for a work study job. A Social Security Number is also required to receive the tax document 1098-T.

RISD receives SSNs from your admissions application or FAFSA so most students will not need to set their SSN.

Set or change your SSN

In the upper right click your photo or silhouette, then View Profile.

Click Personal
Click IDs
Click Add then Change My Government IDs
or if changing your SSN, select Edit then Change My Government ID
In Country choose United States of America
In National ID Type choose Social Security Number (SSN)
In Add/Edit ID enter your SSN
If adding your SSN for the first time, click Submit

If changing your SSN, click Select Files and upload proof of your SSN such as a Social Security card. Then choose the Category Personal Information and click Submit.
