What happens to my RISD Account when I leave RISD? (Faculty)
Modified on: Mon, Mar 25 2024 4:04 PMYour RISD account provides access to RISD Google Workspace for Education Apps (Gmail, Contacts, Calendar, Drive, Sites and Chat), and other institutionally licensed software and services (including but not limited to Zoom, Canvas, Adobe and other department specific software).
Your RISD account will be disabled on the evening of the official last day of service. Employees are responsible for backing up any data from the various services prior to this date. It is not permissible to request access to your information after the account is disabled.
The work and communications of a RISD employee is sensitive, confidential, and includes information that is protected by legal confidentiality restrictions, including but not limited to proprietary RISD documents, financial information, and FERPA-protected student information.
The work of RISD staff is primarily “work for hire” with certain exceptions for faculty work and the IP rights of the work belonging to RISD. Restoring access to a risd.edu account after employment has ended would create a security and compliance risk for the RISD network and the expectations of data security for our community.
Exceptions:
- Professor Emeritus / Distinguished Critic - A faculty member that is granted this status will continue to access RISD Google Workspace Accounts. Other services will be disabled. Please see the Academic Affairs Policy for Professor Emeritus/Librarian Emeritus/Distinguished Lecturer & Critic
- Alumni - A faculty member's alumni account will not be impacted.
