How to make a PDF file accessible with Docdrop OCR
This tutorial shows how to use Docdrop ORC to make a PDF file accessible allowing to select, annotate, and highlight text. Docdrop is available for free at docrop.org/ocr and developed by Hypothes.is, a digital tool for social annotation.
1. In this example we are using a PDF document that is available as an image (the text is not selectable).
2. Go to docdrop.org/ocr
3. Drag the PDF document you want to OCR into the drop area
4. Click on "Run OCR"
5. After the file is processed, click on the "Download" icon.
6. You can now open the PDF file on your browser or with your PDF viewer and select or highlight the text
7. You may also want to use Docdrop with a PDF document that is already OCRed.
8. Docdrop will let you know that the text in the document is already selectable. If you are not happy with the quality of the document you can click on "Redo OCR."
9. This will generate a new version of the PDF document that you can download and check for accessibility and quality.led step
