For Advisors: Understanding Student Academic Progress in Workday
Tracking academic progress
As an advisor, you can help students track their progress toward degree completion.
Academic Catalogs outline the required courses in the recommended sequence.
The Workday Academic Progress Report tracks each requirement and whether a student has met, partially met or not met the requirement. You can see progress reports for your advisees, and students can see it themselves. The report automatically factors in approved curriculum modifications provided those have been communicated to the Registrar's Office. The report is not real time. Classes the student registers for today will be included in the report tomorrow.
Tracking Requirements Using the Catalog and Academic Progress Report
Academic Catalog
The Academic Catalog lists all degree requirements for each major and their recommended sequence.
Use the academic catalog corresponding to the year the student entered RISD because the curriculum changes over time and students are held to the catalog of the year they entered.
You can find the Catalogs at risd.edu/catalogs

Log in to Workday.
Find the student from your advisees list or by name.
For a list, go to Menu > Academic Advising Dashboard and click My Advisees. Click the student.
By name, in Search, enter the student's name, on your keyboard press enter and select the Student result. If you don't see the student's name with Student listed under it, configure your search to include students in the results.
On the left menu, select Academics then at the top select Academic Progress.

All requirements might not fit on one page. To see all the requirements, at the bottom of the page next to Items per page select All.

The progress report appears.
Identify Classes Not Counting Toward Student's Degree
Classes that don't count toward a student's degree appear as Unused Registrations. These may be courses the student failed, received an incomplete or are in excess, meaning the classes fulfill a requirement the student has already met with other classes.
Important: Classes a student registers for today will appear here until the report updates overnight.
On the Academic Progress Report, next to Unused Registrations click the number to view unused courses.

Identifying Remaining Requirements
The quickest way to see a student's outstanding requirements is to look in the Remaining column. Any requirement outstanding will show how many more credits or courses a student needs to complete the requirement after factoring in any courses the student is enrolled in for the current or future semesters.
