Assign or Change Final Grades in Workday
Modified on: Tue, Mar 18 2025 11:58 AMFinal grades may be entered during the grading window at the end of each semester. Grades are shown to students immediately after submission.
Grade changes and incomplete extensions are also entered in Workday. Depending on the change, it may require approval from the Department Head and/or Dean. Workday will route such changes for proper approval.
Enter Final Grades
On your Workday homepage, click View All Apps or use the side menu to access your Teaching worklet
In the Grading Activities box, click Assign Final Grades
In the next box, choose My Assigned Course Sections and then select the appropriate term
Your courses will populate. Click the course you wish to grade and click OK

For each student choose a grade from the Final Grade box

You may enter grades for all or some students. RISD requests you to prioritize grades for seniors. When you are finished, click Continue. You are NOT done!
Select (check) Confirm after reviewing the grades
Click Submit. As soon as you click Submit, grades are visible to students
Final grade narratives are entered on a separate screen. See directions.
Change Final Grade
On your Workday homepage, click View All Apps or use the side menu to access your Teaching worklet
In the Instructor Activities box, click Assign Final Grades
In the next box, choose My Assigned Course Sections and then select the appropriate term
Your courses will populate. Click the course you wish to grade and click OK
Next to the student for which to change the grade, scroll right and select (check) Change Grade
In Revised Grade select the new grade
Scroll to the right and in Grade Change Reason select the reason. If you choose other you must enter a Comment
Click Continue
Select (check) Confirm after reviewing the change
Click Submit
Extend Incomplete Deadline
On your Workday homepage, click View All Apps or use the side menu to access your Teaching worklet
In the Instructor Activities box, click Assign Final Grades
In the next box, choose My Assigned Course Sections and then select the appropriate term
Your courses will populate. Click the course and click OK
Next to the student for which to extend the deadline, select Change Grade
In Revised Grade, select I
In the Revised Grade Due Date enter the new deadline for completion. Per RISD academic policy, incompletes from a fall semester must be completed by Feb. 1. Incompletes from wintersession must be resolved by March 15. Incompletes from spring or summer by October 15.
In the Grade Change Reason, select Other
In Comment enter "Incomplete extension"
Click Continue
Select (check) Confirm after reviewing the change
Click Submit
