Enroll in a Payment Plan in Nelnet - International Payment Plan

Overview

This guide will help Students or their designated Third Party to enroll in a Payment Plan, available for a limited time each semester after charges are released for fall and spring. No interest is charged to participate in a payment plan, but there is a $68 enrollment fee. Payment plan amounts can be made in the amount of your choice. Students must have a confirmed formal strategy to pay their full semester balance by the payment deadline for each semester.

For the DOMESTIC Payment Plan, banking details are entered by the plan participant into Nelnet and payments are drawn from the financial account automatically on the first of the month according to the payment plan schedule. However, the INTERNATIONAL Payment Plan in Nelnet through Convera is an invoice payment plan and is not automatic. Plan participants must go from Workday to Nelnet on a monthly basis to initiate payment through Convera to make their monthly payments in time for the first of the month deadline. Being timely and planful is essential to participate in the International Payment Plan.

The instructions assume that 1) the Student or Third Party has accessed Workday, and 2) the Student or Third Party has created a Nelnet account. This starts with accessing Workday and then navigating to Nelnet.

Process – Enroll in an INTERNATIONAL Payment Plan

Use these instructions to enroll in an international payment plan in the Nelnet system through Convera (formerly known as Western Union).

Click the Finances icon on your home page in Workday.

Click the Payment Plan link under the Student Accounts heading. This link will take you to your Nelnet account in a new window.

From your Nelnet account dashboard, click on Set Up a Payment Plan.

Click the Begin button to proceed with the Payment Plan

Review Contact Information and Edit Details, if needed. It’s advisable to check to select email reminders for payments. Answer Security questions and click Next.

In Amount Due, enter the total dollar amount of the payment plan that you wish to participate in for the semester. This is the total amount of your payment plan that will be divided into equal monthly payments (four or five, depending upon when you enroll) over the course of the semester, due on the first of the month.

In Payment Plan Options, select the payment plan you’d like, in this case an international payment plan through Convera.

Payment Plan Enrollment Fee - Note that there is a nonrefundable payment plan enrollment fee - payable immediately - to participate in a payment plan.

In Payment Details, select International Payment.

Review and Authorize all details, to include the balance summary, payment details to include the financial account you entered for the enrollment fee and payment plan, the future payment schedule with amounts for the monthly payments, and read and accept terms and conditions of the payment plan. For the international payment plan, Nelnet will email the payment plan owner an invoice 20 days prior to the monthly first of the month deadline. That way, the payer will initiate the payment through Convera to meet the deadline. Click Authorize to finalize the payment plan. Then, click Proceed to Convera to initiate payment of your $68 USD enrollment fee.
